About the Vestry
Vestry members share in the leadership of the parish by working with the rector to guide the church’s mission, ministry, and finances. They represent the congregation, help make decisions about parish life and stewardship, and pray for the well-being and direction of the church.
In the Episcopal Church, the vestry is the legal representative of the parish with regard to all matters pertaining to its corporate property. Vestry members are elected at the annual parish meeting. The presiding officer of the vestry is the rector. The senior warden leads the parish between rectors and is a support person for the rector. The basic responsibilities of the vestry are to help define and articulate the mission of the congregation; to support the church’s mission by word and deed, to select the rector, to ensure effective organization and planning, and to manage resources and finances.
Parishioners who feel called to offer their gifts for leadership and discernment are encouraged to consider serving on the Vestry as part of this vital ministry of shared governance and faith.
At St. Luke’s Ypsi, all adult communicants in good standing are eligible for nomination to serve on the Vestry.
